Why is there a secret in the message of Fatima? The most important information given to the world since 1917; information vital to every soul walking on the earth today and to every soul who shall walk the earth 'till the second coming of Christ. Why would there be a secret in the message? The best answer may be Lucia's answer to Canon Barthas. When the seer was asked why it would be necessary to wait until 1960 to reveal the third secret, she replied "Because the Blessed Virgin wishes it so." We know from St Louis de Montfort that the Immaculate Queen "is so transformed into Thee by grace that she lives no more, she is as though she were not. It is Thou only, my Jesus, who livest and reignest in her more perfectly than in all the angels and the blessed." So we can say that if the Blessed Virgin wishes something it is because the King of Heaven wishes it. If God wishes to include a secret in the message of Fatima, those on earth should copy the Immaculate Queen and accept His Will. When God wishes the secret to be revealed we should also accept His Will. In her third memoir, is the first time Lucia mentions the secret of Fatima being divided into three parts. She tells us the first part is the vision of hell where the souls of poor sinners go. The second part she tells us is the prophecy of world peace if Russia is consecrated to the Immaculate Heart, and if the Communion of reparation on the First Saturdays is followed. The two parts of the secret were written down at the request of Rev. Fr. Jose Bernardo Goncalves. Lucia complied, saying "It seems to me that I can reveal it, since I already have permission from heaven to do so." This was written in the summer of 1941. In 1943, Lucia became gravely ill and was asked by Bishop de Silva to write down the third part of the secret "if she really wanted to". Lucia worried at the vagueness of the request and so the Bishop wrote to her the express order to write down the third secret. On January 2 the Immaculate Queen appeared to Lucia to confirm that it was God's Will that the third part of the secret be written down. Fact#1. The immediate recipient of the Secret was Bishop da Silva and he could have read it at once. Sister Lucy told him so from the Blessed Virgin. But frightened by the responsibility that he would have to assume, he did not dare, he did not wish to have knowledge of it. He then tried to commit it to the Holy Office, but Rome refused to receive it. It was then agreed that if Bishop da Silva happened to die, the envelope would be entrusted to Cardinal Cerejeira, the Patriarch of Lisbon. It is therefore false to say, as has been so often repeated after 1960, that the Third Secret is destined explicitly and exclusively to the Holy Father! Fact#2. It is true, however, - I provide several proofs of it in my book - that Sister Lucy wanted Pope Pius XII to know the Secret without further delay. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Fact#3. Ascertaining that Bishop da Silva persisted in not wishing to open the envelope, Sister Lucy "made him promise, in the words of Canon Galamba, that the Third Secret would be opened and read to the world upon her death or in 1960, whichever would happen first." A series of testimonies which give us an account of the repeated statements of Sister Lucy enabled this fact to be established with absolute certitude. Fact#4. Finally, this promise to disclose the Secret immediately after the death of Sister Lucy or in any case, "in 1960 at the latest", surely corresponds to a request by the Virgin Mary Herself. In fact, when in 1946, Canon Barthas asked the seer why it would be necessary to wait until 1960, Sister Lucy replied to him in the presence of Bishop da Silva, "Because the Blessed Virgin wishes it so." It should be said that there is a lot of controversy surrounding the Third Secret of Fatima. Why was it not released in 1960? That's one of the big questions being asked. I do not wish to add to the confussion by offering my own opinion, so I will just offer to you, the reader, what was released by the Vatican on June 26th, 2000. AND NOW THE THIRD SECRET I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through his Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine. After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendour that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the angel cried out in a loud voice: PENANCE PENANCE PENANCE. And we saw in an immense light that is God: 'something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a bishop dressed in white 'we had the impression that it was the Holy Father.' Other bishops, priests, men and women religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on this way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other bishops, priests, men and women religious and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the cross there were two angels each with a crystal aspersoium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.
